Radiation Disaster Issues in Children: A Case-Based Activity

鲸鱼加速器官网The second of two lessons in the pediatric curriculum development initiative of the NCDMPH, this online course addresses protocols for treating children after a radiation disaster. The freely accessible lesson examines three possible cases in a disaster scenario, challenging learners with questions and providing access to useful pediatric radiation resources at key decision making points. The lesson is accredited by a range of agencies for audiences across the spectrum of pediatric healthcare.
Role/ Responsibilities
As Instructional Designer/Writer for this lesson, my responsibilities included:
- Reorganizing written content in consultation with project management and SMEs.
- Chunking and re-writing content for online presentation + developing downloadable resources for as-needed reference.
- Storyboarding content and writing interactions.
- Coordinating supporting resources.
- Conducting photo image search (paid stock and defense agencies), cropping and treating photos, and managing production artist
- Supporting on-site web developer during course development + quality assurance.
Achievements
Challenges met for this project included:
- Presenting scenario-based information and associated resources through case-based studies that allowed for easy access by healthcare workers across many disciplines (e.g., first responders, physicians, medical or military personnel).
- Selecting photography relevant and supportive of on-screen case studies, through careful search of stock photography and defense agency sites.
- Providing multiple avenues of navigation through the lesson to support access via desktop and tablet while allowing for compliance with required 508 and SCORM guidelines.
- Working remotely with team and advising an in-house programmer to code course for live launch.
